Shayna Hubers, a Kentucky woman convicted of murdering her boyfriend, Ryan Poston, as he prepared to go on a date with Miss Ohio 2012, is now seeking a new relationship while serving a life sentence. Hubers, 33, was sentenced in 2018 after a jury found her guilty of shooting Poston in cold blood in October 2012.

Poston, 29, had been planning to meet pageant queen Audrey Bolte when he tried to end his tumultuous relationship with Hubers, who was 21 at the time. Following her conviction, Hubers has turned to the website WriteAPrisoner to connect with potential penpals, expressing a desire to find someone who won’t judge her for her past, according to the Daily Mail.

“I have grown much since the 21-year-old girl I was in October 2012 at the time of my arrest,” Hubers wrote on her profile. “I’m looking for someone who won’t judge me by my past, but by the woman I’ve become.”

In her profile, she describes herself as a tall brunette with “long, wavy, golden brown hair; big steel blue doe eyes, and a wide, bright smile.” Hubers included 15 photographs, some taken inside prison, and emphasized that “no one really knows or can explain what I’ve been through besides me.”

Despite her conviction, Hubers maintains hope that she will one day be free, criticizing what she calls “false conviction theories” and claiming that her case was sensationalized for television ratings. “I haven’t given up on meeting someone true, loyal, loving, respectful, non-judgmental, and devoted,” she said.

Although Hubers is currently serving a life sentence, she will be eligible for parole in September 2032. She has been incarcerated since she was 21.

Interestingly, while Hubers states she is looking for a male penpal, she married a transgender woman, Unique Taylor, in a 30-second jailhouse ceremony in 2018. The marriage, however, ended just seven months later due to irreconcilable differences.

Throughout her trials, Hubers insisted she shot Poston in self-defense, claiming he had pushed her and thrown her against furniture. However, prosecutors argued it was a premeditated murder after Poston tried to end their relationship. Hubers shot Poston six times, and after the killing, she called 911 and confessed, saying, “Ma’am, I killed my boyfriend.”

Her case gained further notoriety when cellmates testified that Hubers had joked about giving Poston the “nose job he always wanted.” This chilling statement echoed her remarks during her police interrogation, where she boasted, “I gave him his nose job he wanted.”
