Breanne Allarie, a Vancouver mom and former competitive gymnast, recently found viral fame with a unique video that mixes gymnastics and kitchen antics, amassing over 22 million views on Instagram. “I just pulled out the mat and put on my swimsuit. And I was like, ‘Let’s go,’” Allarie shared with TODAY.com about the impromptu filming by her husband, Jordan Allarie. The video showcases her performing gymnastic moves on her children’s mat in their kitchen, inspired by watching Olympic clips.
Allarie’s gymnastics journey began early, with dreams of the Olympics that shifted towards earning a full-ride scholarship as she grew up. However, her competitive aspirations were cut short at 14 after a severe injury during a tumbling pass that fractured her back. “I landed on my neck, and honestly, I was so lucky that I could still walk,” she recounted.
Despite the setback, Allarie didn’t leave the world of performance. She transitioned to dancing, eventually working professionally on cruise ships and at Tokyo Disney. Now a mother of two young children, aged 4 and 6, she has embraced her role as an online content creator, enjoying the ability to express her creative side.
In her viral video, Allarie performs a series of gymnastics moves, including the challenging Shushunova. “That’s the one where I jump into the air and you pretty much land flat,” she explained. “Everybody was like, ‘Why are you doing a belly flop?’ But it’s actually a legit gymnastics move called the Shushunova.”
While she joked about attempting a backflip during the video, she ultimately decided against it, considering the long time since she last performed such moves. Despite some comments on her choice to wear a swimsuit, Allarie dismisses them, emphasizing, “I think it’s just about me being me. And the world can either take it or leave it.”
Allarie aims to inspire, particularly midsize moms, showing that they too can embrace challenges with confidence. Her children are learning from her example, with her 4-year-old son awarding her a playful “gold” for her performance. Her story is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the joy of sharing one’s passions, no matter the stage—or kitchen.
