A 43-year-old woman has been charged following an incident involving her son at a Myrtle Beach swimming pool over the July 4 weekend. Ana Luisa Beccerra-Lira faces one count of unlawfully placing a child at risk. Bond information has not been publicly disclosed.

The incident occurred on Friday at the Caribbean Resort located at 3000 N. Ocean Blvd. Surveillance footage showed Beccerra-Lira taking pictures of her son in a shallow hot tub before walking away, according to authorities.

The report describes the incident as a “drowning.” However, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard informed News13 on Wednesday that there was no information regarding a death related to the incident.

After taking pictures, Beccerra-Lira sat in a lounge chair out of sight of her son. The child then exited the hot tub and jumped into a nearby swimming pool with a depth of five feet. Officials reported that the child was submerged for six minutes before being pulled out and given CPR.

“The defendant was unaware of the victim’s location or that he had been pulled from the pool and CPR administered,” the police report stated.

The child’s current condition has not been disclosed.
