Losing a pet can be one of the most painful experiences for an owner, leaving many struggling to cope with the void their beloved animal has left behind. In an incredibly touching gesture, a veterinarian helped ease a grieving owner’s heartache after her cat passed away, sending a ‘message’ from the late feline that brought tears to her eyes.
The woman, who shared the story on Reddit, revealed that her cat, Izzy, had passed away on Tuesday from end-stage kidney failure. “I got these in the mail today,” she wrote, alongside a photograph of the keepsakes, reported by Wales Online. The first memento featured a paw print inked onto a piece of paper, with the words: “Paw-positive I’ll miss you.” The second showed a paw print with the words “Kisses before I go!” and a touching imprint of Izzy’s nose and mouth.
The woman admitted she was speechless after receiving the messages, which helped bring her some comfort during a difficult time. “Looking for her in spots where she would normally hang out and then not seeing her there is probably one of the hardest things,” she said.
The post sparked an outpouring of support from others who had experienced similar losses. One user commented, “Stop. This would have wrecked me had the vet sent these. Mine passed away two weeks ago from the same, end-stage renal failure. I miss her terribly and keep looking for her around the corners. Sending you hugs.” Another shared a comforting story of their own: “I lost my boy Louie very suddenly a few months ago and after a week or so I had a dream where I went to my car, and he ran in and went up to his favorite spot on the couch. They find ways to come back and visit.”
A third user shared their own comforting experience, saying: “My soul kitty Tessie passed almost three years ago… there are times when I feel the bed sink in a spot and I’ll assume it’s my current cat, but when I reach out to pet her she’s not there. I believe it’s Tessie, and she’s come home for bedtime.”
Another user added, “Same happened after I lost my soul kitty Mystic to cancer… I distinctly felt her wrap her little paws around my arm in a hug – just like she did in life.” These emotional responses show how deep the bond between pets and their owners truly is, and how the love they share never really disappears.
