A therapist who has garnered millions of views on social media for his straightforward health advice has shared a simple method to unblock a stuffy nose in seconds. James Moore’s advice comes at a crucial time as people across the country deal with high pollen counts and a new wave of Covid-19.

In a recently shared video, James demonstrates a method that promises to clear your nose and help you breathe more easily. The technique involves pushing a finger against one side of your nose to close one nostril. Next, apply firm pressure under the cheekbone on the opposite side of your face and hold for 10 seconds. Alternatively, you can ‘pull’ your nose to one side and apply pressure under your cheekbone for the same duration. According to James, who specializes in massage, this method increases blood flow to the sinus area, providing quick relief.

Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, is an allergic reaction to airborne substances like pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or mold. These substances are known as allergens. When someone with hay fever encounters these allergens, their immune system mistakenly identifies them as harmful, releasing histamines and other chemicals to fight them off. This results in symptoms such as sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, runny or blocked nose, itchy throat, mouth, nose, and ears, cough, and fatigue due to poor sleep quality from symptoms, via Daily Mail.

Hay fever is often seasonal, with symptoms peaking during times of high pollen counts, typically in the spring and summer. However, it can also be perennial (year-round) if allergens like dust mites or pet dander are present throughout the year. Managing and treating hay fever involves several strategies: avoidance of allergens, medications, immunotherapy, and lifestyle adjustments. Avoidance of allergens includes staying indoors during high pollen counts, using air purifiers, and keeping windows closed. Medications such as over-the-counter or prescription antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, and decongestants can alleviate symptoms. Immunotherapy, through allergy shots or sublingual tablets, can gradually desensitize the immune system to specific allergens. Lifestyle adjustments involve regularly cleaning living spaces, washing bedding in hot water, and using allergy-proof covers for mattresses and pillows. If symptoms are severe or persistent, consulting a healthcare professional for a tailored treatment plan is advisable.

James Moore’s quick and easy technique offers a handy solution for those suffering from nasal congestion due to hay fever or other causes. By increasing blood flow to the sinus area, his method provides immediate relief, allowing individuals to breathe more freely. As the season of high pollen counts continues and with a new Covid wave on the horizon, such simple, effective remedies are invaluable.
