A 15-year-old teenager has been charged with the murder of his 17-year-old brother and shooting his father in the head with a shotgun in an alleged incident just outside their home in Nevils, Bulloch County, Georgia. The tragic events unfolded on Saturday morning at around 10:50 AM when police responded to reports of a shooting near the Waters Cemetery Road/Highway 46 area.
Johnny Lariscy, 17, tragically died after being rushed to a hospital in Statesboro, Georgia. Meanwhile, his father, Jarrell Lariscy Sr., 35, survived the attack and is currently being treated at Memorial Hospital in Savannah for a gunshot wound to the head. A GoFundMe page set up to support Jarrell Sr. revealed that he had suffered serious injuries. Police reports confirmed that both victims had been struck by shotgun pellets.
At a press conference, Captain Todd Hutchens from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office provided details, stating, “Basically, the 15-year-old shot his brother and shot his father, just in this unfortunate circumstance.” Jarrell Lariscy Jr. was arrested at the scene and has been charged with one count each of felony murder and malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Due to Georgia’s “Seven Deadly Sins” law, Lariscy Jr. will face adult charges for his actions, as this law allows for juveniles to be prosecuted as adults for specific violent crimes such as murder and aggravated assault. Captain Hutchens also expressed the community’s sympathy for the family, saying, “We want to be very compassionate to this family. We want to extend our condolences to this family. It’s an unfortunate situation and circumstance, and we just want to extend out our prayers to them, as they have to deal with this situation, not only just to themselves, but also here during the holiday season”, according to Statesboro Herald.
A GoFundMe page created by a family friend to assist with Jarrell Sr.’s medical expenses has raised over $4,000. The page describes Jarrell Sr. as a hardworking member of the Nevils community, owning a lawn care business and working at a towing company. It reads, “Jarrell (Jay) has a very long road ahead of him. He is in Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He is being monitored at Memorial Hospital at this time. He has also experienced the tragic loss of his 17-year-old son Johnny.”
The page also honors Johnny as a “typical southern teenager” who loved fishing, hunting, and riding four-wheelers. It continues, “He was always willing to help anyone and everyone just like his dad. They were inseparable always doing things together.” The community has rallied around the Lariscy family, offering prayers and support during this incredibly difficult time
