Hailey Clifton-Carmack, a former teacher at Laquey High School, has been sentenced following accusations of an inappropriate relationship with a student. According to court documents, Clifton-Carmack, from Waynesville, was sentenced on Friday to a 120-day program. Under state statute 559.115, she may be released on probation if she successfully completes the program as determined by the Department of Corrections.
Initially, Clifton-Carmack was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of sexual contact with a student. Her arrest earlier this year took place in the San Antonio area, following an investigation that began after a school resource officer reported allegations of the inappropriate relationship.
In December, a witness claimed that the teacher and a 16-year-old student were involved in a relationship, told the Daily Star. Investigators discovered incriminating messages on Clifton-Carmack’s phone, but during an interview, she denied the accusations. Despite her denials, the evidence led to her arrest and subsequent conviction. School officials confirmed that she had not been at the school since December 2023 and was not expected to return.
In a related case, authorities also arrested Mark Creighton, who was accused of knowing about the relationship but failing to report it. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Creighton recently entered a guilty plea to a lesser charge of peace disturbance and is scheduled to be sentenced on November 6.
This case has brought significant attention to Laquey High School, highlighting the need for vigilance in reporting and addressing inappropriate relationships in educational settings.
