In an unsettling turn of events in a Chicago suburb, ex-NFL player Sergio Brown, 35, has gone missing following the discovery of his mother’s body in a nearby creek.

On Saturday, the Maywood Police Department received a distressing report from the Brown family, expressing concern over their inability to contact Myrtle Brown, 73, or her son, Sergio.

The subsequent missing person investigation led to the tragic discovery of Myrtle’s lifeless body close to her home. Officials transported her to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, treating her passing as a potential homicide.

Close relatives revealed that Myrtle had just commemorated her 73rd birthday on September 8th.

Sheila Simmons, Myrtle’s sister, relayed to Nexstar’s WGN that their last communication took place on September 14th. The gravity of the situation hit her when multiple attempts to contact her sister went unanswered. Simmons recounted the chilling moment she was alerted about the disappearance and the subsequent discovery of her sister’s body. “It’s not normal for my sister to not answer her phone,” she remarked, emphasizing the family’s concern.

By early Saturday, around 3 a.m., an anxious call to Simmons conveyed both Myrtle and Sergio’s absence. A visit to the Browns’ home indicated signs of disturbance. Although an initial search alongside the police yielded no results, a subsequent effort by the family revealed Myrtle’s remains.

Sergio’s silence has raised alarm bells. A former student of Proviso East High School in Maywood, his NFL career spanned from 2010 to 2016, mainly with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. The safety also had stints with teams like the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills.

Maywood Police are actively pursuing leads on Sergio Brown’s whereabouts. They have encouraged anyone with pertinent information to contact the Maywood Police Investigations at 708-368-4131 or the anonymous tip line at 708-450-1787.
