She’s got six legs and a whole host of congenital anomalies, but Skipper the miracle puppy has the will to live. According to Neel Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the little pup was born with “one head and chest cavity, but with two pelvic regions, two lower urinary tracts, two reproductive systems, two tails, and six legs.”
The hospital went on to say they believe the pup, whom they named Skipper, might be the first six-legged dog to be born alive. Despite everything, she is showing signs of progress and fighting to stay alive.
The hospital says she is very strong and growing appropriately, even with signs of spina bifida. So far, Skipper’s organs appear to be in great shape. The veterinarians plan to continue their research on her conditions, but they remain optimistic, as Skipper even learned to climb out of bed recently.
All of her legs move and respond to stimuli like any other puppy of her size. They did say it was possible that Skipper may need physical therapy and mobility assistance as she develops and gets a bit older. In the meantime, she has a new home, is growing at the proper levels, and will be monitored by the team. One of the vets on the staff said Skipper is an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix.
Skipper wound up at the vet clinic after being rejected by her birth mama. For more about this miracle puppy and her amazing developments, press play on the video below.
