If a person is unable to properly care for their pets, there are plenty of animal rescues and shelters available to help, even if that means relinquishing the pet to their care. If only 43-year-old Cara Marie Copeland had done that for her dog, Hank, he may not have suffered to the point of extreme pain. Police say the Charlotte County, Florida woman was recently arrested for her treatment of an innocent dog.
The dog, named Hank, was found recently wandering a few streets over from Copeland’s home. He was very emaciated, sickly looking, and in overall poor condition. Law enforcement officers took control of the dog and had him scanned for a microchip, which was registered to Copeland. Upon contacting the woman, she told cops she had financial problems and could not properly care for the dog.

However, when the dog was examined by an area veterinarian, he determined the animal to have a chronic ear infection, a chronic and severe skin condition, along with swelling in his paws and face. As a result, the determination was made that Hank suffered as a result of neglect by Copeland. Thankfully, the dog is no longer in her care and Copeland resides in the Charlotte County Jail.
I Love My Dog reminds our readers to get in touch with local animal control or a local rescue if you can no longer care for your pets.
