Jurni the Pit Bull was an emaciated mess when she was found limping down a road in North Carolina. The rescue that took her in figured out that she had lived all her life being chained to a backyard. She was starved and abused before getting kicked out like trash.
Despite being so frail and mistreated, Jurni was jubilant to find herself at the shelter. She would wag her tail non-stop with gratitude as she consumed proper meals for the first time in her life. Even so, the workers could see that Jurni was a broken girl who never enjoyed her puppyhood and didn’t know what it was like to be a beloved pet.
They set her up with an experienced foster mom to help her heal both mentally and physically. During her first month in foster care, Jurni gained healthy weight, but was still wary around others. Gradually, she began going on walks, and observed her foster siblings living fulfilling lives. But what really helped her come out of her shell was her newfound love for stuffed animals!
Jurni would literally bury herself in her toys as she felt safe and protected with them. This worked wonders for her confidence and she started befriending everyone with ease. She even embraced her nurturing ways and played foster mama to 10 orphaned kittens! The way she found the perfect dad to watch over her brought us to happy tears!!
