Michael Clarke, a paramedic with the St. Charles County Ambulance District (SCCAD), tragically passed away while on duty at Station 12 in St. Peters, Missouri, on Monday, October 14. Clarke, who had been working on the advanced life support unit, was preparing to respond to an emergency call shortly before 7 a.m. when he was found unresponsive.

According to a statement released by SCCAD on Facebook, when Clarke did not report to the ambulance for the call, his partner found him unresponsive in one of the station’s bedrooms. Fellow paramedics immediately initiated CPR and other lifesaving measures, and Clarke was transported to Barnes St. Peters Hospital. Despite their best efforts, Clarke did not survive.

The cause of Clarke’s death has not yet been determined, leaving his colleagues and community in mourning. Clarke had been with the ambulance service for two years and was known for his upbeat personality and positive energy. His co-workers fondly remembered him for bringing joy to every shift.

“Michael embodied each of our values, but perhaps none more so than compassion – his kindness put patients at ease and earned him respect among colleagues and community health partners,” said SCCAD Chief Kelly Cope in a statement. “This loss is profound, and we appreciate the support of our community during this difficult time.”

Earlier this year, Clarke had been recognized, alongside two other colleagues, for his lifesaving efforts during a cardiac arrest call. His dedication to his work and compassion for his patients made him a valued member of the SCCAD team, and his sudden passing has left a deep void.

Funeral arrangements for Clarke are currently pending and will be shared according to his family’s wishes, SCCAD said. “Our Paramedic Association, Honor Guard, and leadership team will work closely with his loved ones to be of service as they navigate this loss,” the statement added.

As the community mourns the loss of a dedicated paramedic and colleague, Clarke’s legacy of compassion and service continues to be remembered and honored by those who knew and worked with him.
