President Donald Trump is in celebration mode right now after Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) said that she has not decided if she will run again for reelection.
Cleary, Lisa sees the awful writing on the wall – she’s already underwater by double-digits against her challenger and has the wrath of Trump and his supporters against her.
Murkowski looks to be the first TDS domino to fall – and it’s happening much earlier than we expected.
“Great news for the Republican Party!” Trump said in a statement that pointed to reports that there’s a chance Murkowski won’t run again.
“Senator Lisa Murkowski said she is ‘still weighing whether she will run again’ for the Senate in Alaska. In other words, there is a chance that she won’t run! Wouldn’t that be great?” Trump added, according to The Hill.
This came after Murkowski told reporters on Tuesday that she has not decided if she’ll run again, and that she’ll make that decision “when I make it.”
“I have been doing everything that a good incumbent does in terms of preserving my options, visiting with Alaskans, spending a lot of time, as much time on the ground as I can, and raising money,” Murkowski said, according to Roll Call.
Murkowski was censured by the Alaska Republican Party last month after she defied them by voting to impeach Trump back in February.
“If I can’t say what I believe that our president should stand for, then why should I ask Alaskans to stand with me?” Murkowski said at the time.
She had also admitted back in January that she did not vote for Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
“[I]f the Republican Party continues to be the party of Trump, I’m not quite sure where I fit,” she said, according to The Hill.
The Republican establishment has stood by Murkowski, and last Friday, the National Republican Senatorial Committee announced support for her.
“She has been a powerful voice for Alaska’s interests,” read their statement, according to Yahoo News. “We are laser-focused on taking back the Senate majority and stopping the crazy socialist agenda of the Democrats.”
