TikTok sensation Jools Lebron, who famously coined the viral phrase “very demure, very mindful,” made a memorable appearance on the August 19 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. The breakout social media star, known for bringing the term “demure” into the spotlight, was joined by guest co-host RuPaul.
During the episode, RuPaul asked Lebron how he was doing as a host. Lebron’s response, “Very demure, very mindful,” was met with cheers from the audience, perfectly capturing the essence of her popular catchphrase, told US Weekly.
Lebron, a transgender woman, first caught the attention of social media users with her themed TikTok video titled “How to be demure at work,” posted on August 2. In the video, she offered tips on laying her wig down and doing her makeup, all while encouraging viewers to embrace the “very demure, very mindful” lifestyle. The 17-second clip quickly went viral, amassing over 7 million views. Another video, where Lebron shares advice on “how to be demure and respectful at the workplace,” has garnered an astonishing 34 million views. Thanks to her online success, Lebron revealed in a recent TikTok video that she can now afford her gender transition.
When RuPaul asked what inspired her to upload the viral clip, Lebron humorously replied, “Apparently, the trauma that comes from working a retail job gets to you enough that you start saying ‘demure’ on the internet.” She went on to describe her job at Mariano’s grocery store in Illinois as “very cutesy” and, of course, “very demure.”
Explaining what “demure” means to her, Lebron described it as “a mindset.” She joked, “I used to be crazy and out of control and I found some demurity, and along with that came success … Demurity is my purity.”
Lebron’s “demure” mantra has been embraced by numerous celebrities, but she admitted that a nod from Jennifer Lopez surprised her the most. The 55-year-old singer shared her take on demure while sipping a drink from her cocktail brand, Delola. “She finally revealed what that orange drink from the block was,” Lebron said, adding that the beverage was “Demure.”
During the show, Lebron also commented on RuPaul’s ensemble, a red and pink plaid suit with a red and white polka dot blouse. “The cho cho appears to be tucked, but the chi chis are out, but I think it looks very demure,” she quipped. When asked to clarify what the “cho cho” referred to, Lebron playfully responded, “I’d like to remain demure, please.”
Finally, Lebron shared that she was invited to appear at the Democratic National Convention, which began in Chicago on Monday night. However, she humorously declined the invitation, citing a prior commitment: “I had a wig appointment.”
