Researchers have found a brand new COVID-19 treatment that effectively blocks the SARS-CoV-2 virus’s ability to replicate.
Researchers and scientists have discovered a compound that has been found to be effective at preventing the replication of SARS-CoV-2, the virus the causes the COVID-19 infection.
The new study comes from researchers at UCLA, and it looked at how the compound called berzosertib could become an effective therapy for COVID-19.
The objective of the study was to identify drugs that can stop the replication of SARS-CoV-2, rather than attacking the virus directly.
The scientists looked at 430 drugs from among the approximately 200,000 compounds and found 34 that showed some ability to stop the replication process of the virus.
Of those 34 drugs that were found, berzosertib proved to be the most effective candidate after researchers conducted experiments with COVID-19-infected cells that resemble attacks on organs such as the kidney, heart, and lungs.
Additionally, the researchers found that berzosertib was also effective at preventing others diseases such as SARS and MERS from replicating.
