A woman confessed to cutting her own mum’s head off before carrying it outside to show the neighbors in a haunting 999 call.
Jessica Camilleri, 27, stabbed her mum Rita, 57, more than 100 times during an argument in their home in Sydney, Australia, in July 2019.
Her head was discovered on the footpath outside her home, with her body in the kitchen.
She was found guilty of manslaughter but cleared of murder and the disturbing emergency call she made has now been released following a sentencing hearing today (February 17).
In the call, a chillingly calm Camilleri says: “My mum has tried to stab me and I’ve killed her, I think.”
She asks police to come “immediately” before going into the horrifying details.
“Mum had enough of me, she grabbed me by the hair and dragged me all the way to the kitchen and got a knife.
“She tried too tab me with it and I grabbed it off her and stabbed her back.
“I was just so caught up in the anger I kept stabbing and stabbing her and I took off her head.
“I ran to my neighbour and I had my mum’s head in my hand and I was taking it as evidence to show that in the struggle, I didn’t know what I was doing so I cut her head off.
“I chopped her head off with a knife.”
Camilleri says she used “about seven knives” to murder Rita, before adding there is “blood everywhere” in the kitchen.
The 27-year-old was found guilty of manslaughter at trial in December, after she had pleaded not guilty to murder on the grounds of substantial impairment and mental illnesses.
During the trial, the court heard Camilleri stabbed her mum more than 100 times in the neck and head, decapitated her and cut out her eyeballs, tongue and nose.
She told a psychiatrist that violent movies inspired her horrifying crime and chilling Facebook posts made before her act showed her obsession with brutal flicks such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Her barrister Nathan Steel told the court she had now abandoned her claims that she was acting in self-defense.
Kristy Torrisi, Camilleri’s sister, gave an emotional statement after her sentencing hearing, saying: “My mother was taken from me by the selfish hands of my own sister.
“She was killed and butchered like she was nothing, all because of a fit of rage.”
Kristy told the court that Rita was “a beautiful woman inside and out and had a heart of gold”.
Camilleri faces a maximum 25 years behind bars and will be sentenced in March.
