A four-year-old boy has been found alone for days with his deceased grandmother after maintenance workers discovered the heartbreaking scene in an apartment. If it hadn’t been for scheduled maintenance on the property, it’s unclear how much longer the boy might have been left alone.
The boy was found after maintenance workers entered The Summerwood on Towne Line Apartments to repair his grandmother’s window. She had arranged the repair service shortly before her passing, and the workers had called ahead but received no response. Upon arriving at the apartment, the front desk staff attempted to contact the elderly woman, but again there was no answer. Despite the lack of response, the staff allowed the workers to enter the home.
It was then that the workers found the young boy, initially assuming he was home alone. However, further investigation revealed that the boy had been left to fend for himself while his grandmother had passed away. The boy had been alone for two days in the apartment.
A neighbor spoke about the elderly woman, saying: “I had just seen her a few days ago. She was so sweet and nice with every interaction we had”, reported IndyStar. They expressed the importance of regular checks on elderly neighbors, as “Old people can slip away so easily.” Another neighbor added that there had been nothing unusual from the apartment, and the young boy didn’t seem to be crying or calling for help before being found.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and attempted to resuscitate the elderly woman, but their efforts were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the situation is currently being investigated. It appears to be a case of natural causes.
This tragic event highlights the importance of regular check-ins with vulnerable neighbors, especially the elderly, who can be more prone to health complications and accidents. Thankfully, the boy was discovered before a longer period of time had passed, but the circumstances surrounding this case serve as a somber reminder of the need for community vigilance.
