The World Health Organization chief just said something that no one wanted to hear about COVID-19 vaccines and new virus strains.
The World Health Organization on Monday said something no one wants to hear about new COVID-19 strains and current vaccines.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the reports of new COVID-19 variants spreading around the globe have raised high levels of concern about the effectiveness of current vaccines.
The WHO head called this “concerning news”, and in particular, pointed out that vaccines aren’t as effective against the new strain detected in South Africa.
The WHO chief went on to say that it’s become increasingly clear that vaccine manufacturers will need to alter current vaccines to combat the genetic differences in the new strains.
The way to combat these new strains is to update vaccines and people receiving what is called a booster shot, which is essentially a new shot aimed at combating a newly evolved strain of COVID-19. For more information on this story, check out this link here.
