A new study out of Harvard has found if you have had this common illness, you are more likely to die from a COVID-19 infection.
Researchers from Harvard have found that if a patient has previously had a case of pneumonia, it can increase the chance of death if they contract COVID-19. The new study has been published in the journal NPJ Digital Medicine, and the researchers examined data of nearly 17,000 COVID-19 patients.
What the researchers found was having pneumonia prior to the COVID-19 infection was a strong indicator that the COVID-19 infection would more severe or even more deadly.
The researchers stated in the study, “A history of pneumonia, which is rarely asked in typical epidemiology studies, was one of the most important risk factors for predicting COVID-19 mortality.”
