Though, due to vast number of ways that upset stomach may be perceived, it is difficult to figure out all causes, but there are many things that can result in an upset stomach. Following are some of the conditions that can trigger stomach pain.

  • One of the conditions that can cause upset stomach is over eating or eating too quickly. Most people don’t chew their food well and try to gulp all the bites. In most cases people get rid of such stomach pain within few hours by using antacid.
  • In some conditions, upset stomach is accompanied with diarrhea or vomiting which is usually caused by food poisoning and viruses. If the conditions got worse and stomach pain doesn’t subside, one should see a doctor. In the cases of upset stomach related to food poisoning, patients require antibiotics and dehydration is considered as an important concern when diarrhea or vomiting won’t stop.
  • There are also some medications that may cause chronic stomach pain. If things get intolerable one should switch to another medication.
  • If upset stomach is described as a severe stomach pain along with nausea, this suggests a serious condition.
  • Such condition occurs when people are in the midst of heart attack. When one feels like very bad heartburn, it can also be a heart attack.
  •   Stomach pain may also be caused by numerous conditions including mononucleosis, appendicitis and pancreatitis.

How to Relieve Stomach Pain

  • Whatever be the cause of upset stomach, there are ways to relieve the symptoms.
  • Discuss your medications with your doctor so that you may know which one of them can trigger stomach pain.
  • Reduce the amount of alcohol, caffeine, smoking and carbonated beverages in your daily life to get rid of upset stomach.
  • If you find that eating a particular food upsets your stomach, the best way to relieve stomach pain is to avoid such foods. Common foods led to upset stomach are spicy or high-fat foods, dairy products, caffeine and alcohol.
  • Eating smaller meals throughout the day, rather than a fuller tummy, will help you prevent upset stomach.
  • Herbal teas like ginger or peppermint tea also helps soothing your stomach.
