Mulberry Introduces a Friendly Alternative to High End Handbags

Mulberry Introduces Handbags

Jumping aboard the low-end fashion wagon is British Brand Mulberry with its newly announced “Tessie” line of handbags and small leather goods. With prices starting at £495 (that’s about $800), Tessie will cater to younger shoppers who seek style at reduced rates without compromising on authenticity and brand value. New Tessie HandbagsMulberry stole the show in 2010 launching the wildly successful Alexa bag which triggered the satchel craze and cemented Brit beauty Alexa Chung’s status as a fashion heavyweight. However with bags like the Alexa now retailing for upwards of £1000 ($1700), the brand has chosen to make itself available to the increasingly relevant frugalistas who make up the fashion consumers of today.Alternative High End HandbagsThe Tessie line will bring back shapes and silhouettes popularized by Mulberry in the 1970s like slouchy hobos and classic totes. Their signature satchel will also feature in this range. Tessie offers each style in four alluring shades: black, poppy red, oxblood and oak staying on the minimalist side of embellishment with just one square piece of hardware adorned with the brand’s tree logo. Mulberry claims no compromise on craftsmanship and materials in the creation of Tessie products and the line will also include small leather goods like keychains and bracelets.New High End HandbagsWhile other designers like Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors have long since boasted low-end accessory lines, Tessie marks a first for Mulberry. Industry speculation states that Tessie may be Mulberry’s response to consistently low sales (a product of high prices) and as the brand continues its hunt for a worthy Creative Director, only time will tell whether this move will pay off or not.
