A royal expert has revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton are unlikely to forgive Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as the couple has caused “a lot of pain” to the royal family. Charles Rae, a former royal correspondent, shared his insights on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, suggesting that reconciliation seems improbable.
“If they’re going to make the move, I am not so sure William and Catherine would respond favorably,” Rae commented. He emphasized that Harry and Meghan must take the initiative if they hope to mend relations, but he doubts this would be accepted by William and Kate. “There’s too much water which has gone under that bridge.”
Rae pointed to several significant events that have strained the relationship, including Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry’s autobiography “Spare,” and their Netflix series. These public disclosures have made it much more difficult to repair the familial bond.
“Harry’s caused an awful lot of pain to various members of the royal family, his father, his brother, his sister-in-law,” Rae noted. He expressed skepticism about the possibility of reconciliation, especially considering William’s current focus on more pressing matters, such as Kate’s health battle and their three children.
“If Harry was that keen on making some sort of move towards William… he didn’t wish him a happy 42nd birthday,” Rae added, highlighting Harry’s apparent reluctance to bridge the gap. “Any rift in any family is very, very sad. They’re doing it in the full glare of publicity and that’s obviously ten times worse than you falling out with your brother or sister.”
When asked if there was any hope for the brothers to reconcile, Rae was pessimistic. “I don’t think it’s ever going to happen, and I suspect one of the driving forces in not making it happen is Meghan herself.” While Rae clarified that he does not want to “blame her for everything,” he believes Meghan is not aiding in the reconciliation process.
These sentiments were echoed by fellow royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, who described the situation as one of “deep mutual distrust” between the brothers. Fitzwilliams noted that Harry still harbors resentment towards the royal family for their treatment of Meghan and believes an apology is owed.
The ongoing public feud and the deep-seated grievances between the parties suggest that any move toward reconciliation will be fraught with challenges. The royal family’s internal discord continues to play out under intense public scrutiny, complicating any potential for healing and unity.
