‘W’ out of George W. Bush kickstarts Dubai International Film Festival

So far since its inception Dubai International Film Festival have presented 429 films from more than 50 countries.

The political biography film “W ” about former U.S. President George W. Bush kickstarts the fifth edition of the Dubai International Film Festival. On Thursday evening at Dubai’s coastal resort Madinat Jumeirah amidst celebrities this festival offcialy began. Directed by Oliver Stone this political biography was an ironic choice.

The Dubai International Film Festival is an eight-day film festival. During the Dubai International Film Festival audience will have the opportunity to enjoy 179 features, shorts and documentaries. These are from more than 60 countries or regions.

The Dubai International Film Festival was first launched in December 2004. The Dubai International Film Festival was based on the theme “Bridging Cultures, Meeting Minds.” The festival is being targeted as a potential platform for showcasing excellent Arab films. Hence contributing to the development and growth of the regional industry and talent.

A total of 38 Arab films and 41 films from Asia and Africa will compete for the Dubai International Film Festival Muhr Awards in the categories of features, shorts and documentaries.

To add to this, this year’s festival will present lifetime achievement awards to three directors, namely Terry Gilliam from the United States, Tsui Hark from China’s Hong Kong and Rachid Bouchareb from France.
