Selena Gomez had to improvise her style choices as a young star, because top designers wouldn’t work with her. The sexy 24-year-old Come & Get It singer reveals she was often left wanting for red carpet outfits as a teenager, because her management team couldn’t find gown gurus who wanted to dress her for events. “I wasn’t always their (designers) top choice,” the new face of Louis Vuitton tells Vogue. Selena is now one of the names the designers who once snubbed her are clamoring to get in their creations, and she admits her past style struggles have helped her make the right choices when it comes to red carpet fashion.
“I like to find things that are unconventional and make them look classic because if I’m forcing something, you can just tell,” she adds, explaining that she likes Valentino and Rodarte designs. And Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere admits he had no qualms about asking the singer and actress to become the brand’s new face, revealing he was intrigued by her “spontaneity and curiosity”. Meanwhile, she didn’t need much convincing after Nicolas sang her song Good For You to her and revealed he was a big fan of the tune. “(That was) the real icebreaker,” she says.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez has a new favorite designer after asking Australian Dion Lee to create an all white look for her Revival tour Down Under. “We were contacted by Selena’s team and asked to create a custom look for her tour,” Dion told Vogue Australia. “There were pieces from our resort 2017 collection that Selena was particularly drawn to, which I then adapted into a design that had the silhouette and movement to work on stage.”
