Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s father, has voiced his distress over his grandchildren’s upbringing amidst the ongoing tension with the Royal family. In a recent interview with New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, Thomas expressed his sorrow over Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet being “denied” a Royal lifestyle, highlighting the growing rift with King Charles, who reportedly desires to see his grandchildren, told Express.
Thomas, who remains estranged from Meghan, shared his desire to connect with his grandchildren. He finds it hard to believe that he hasn’t met his son-in-law, despite living in Rosarito, Mexico, just about 400 kilometers from Prince Harry and Meghan’s residence. His wish to spend time with his grandkids, Lilibet and Archie, stems from a sense of missing out on essential family connections.
He also expressed a wish to communicate with King Charles about their shared longing to be part of their grandchildren’s lives. Reflecting on the Trooping the Colour ceremony, Thomas mentioned how he felt seeing Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, proudly wave to supporters from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
“It struck me as very sad that Meghan and Harry’s kids are being denied the right to know their cousins, who look like fantastic children, or take part in things like Trooping the Colour, which is their birthright,” Thomas said.
As Archie and Lilibet grow older, Thomas predicts they will start asking questions about their ties to the Royal family. “I find myself wondering how Archie and Lilibet will feel in a few years’ time when they realize all the things they have missed out on,” he added.
Discussing his desire to spend time with his grandchildren, Thomas remarked on the unexpected alignment of his wishes with those of King Charles. According to rumors, King Charles is eager to travel to Montecito, California, to present himself as a “friendly grandfather” to his grandchildren. Royal analyst Tom Quinn, as cited by The Mirror, noted, “He is desperate to see them and hates the idea that Archie and Lilibet will not remember him as the warm, friendly grandfather he wants to be.”
Thomas Markle also reflected on his relationship with Meghan, stating she is still the “one person I want to hear from most.” As he nears his 80th birthday on July 18, he doubts Meghan will contact him to wish him a happy birthday. Their relationship deteriorated after he missed her wedding in 2018 and became involved in a paparazzi incident. Reports suggest they have not spoken since.
This interview underscores the deep family rifts and the complex emotions involved, highlighting the ongoing struggle for reconciliation amidst the public and private challenges faced by the Markle family.
