She has not been seen in public since the tragic death of boyfriend Cory Monteith on July 13. But on Sunday, a sombre Lea Michele was photographed for the first time as she travelled in a friend’s car in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old Glee star wore dark sunglasses with her dark hair scraped back while riding in the passenger seat alongside a female friend.
She also poignantly appeared to be wearing a necklace with letters spelling out the name ‘Cory,’ in silver – a piece of jewellery she has been spotted with previously. The friends seemed to be having an intense conversation on their way to an address in Bel Air before Lea emerged from the vehicle sporting grey trousers, a black long sleeved top and ballet pumps.
On Sunday, the grieving star also spoke out directly for the first time via her Twitter account, thanking fans for their support. ‘Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support,’ she tweeted. ‘Cory will forever be in my heart.’ The star posted a photograph of herself and Cory from her private collection alongside her tweet.
The self portrait shows the couple cuddling on the beach, as they smile broadly at the camera from behind their sunglasses in front of the ocean. Lea has been seeking solace in her grief from her Glee co-stars. The actress joined them for a memorial service last week ‘to share memories and music in an emotional celebration of the life of Cory’, according to a statement.
The actor was found dead aged 31 from a heroin and alcohol overdose in a hotel room while on a visit to his hometown of Vancouver, Canada. He and Lea had been dating for more than a year and were said to be inseparable.
They were said to be planning on officially moving in together after Cory’s return from Vancouver. Following Cory’s death, Lea helped his mother with heart breaking tasks including organising his cremation and funeral.
Last week a new interview surfaced, given by Lea before Cory’s death. In it she talks openly of her happiness with her boyfriend, telling Marie Claire Mexico: ‘He is the best person I know, he has made my life so incredible, and I am so thankful for him and not only to have him as a partner but also as a co-worker.’
