Lady Gaga dropped The Fame Monster five years ago today (November 18), and to say that it made a major impact upon release would be an understatement. To mark the five-year anniversary, she got a commemorative tattoo.
Spawning chart-topping hits like “Bad Romance” and “Telephone,” the reissue of her debut album, The Fame, quickly took over all of our pop-obsessed lives. Remember that iconic, Quentin Tarantino-inspired video for “Telephone” featuring Beyoncé? Bless you, The Fame Monster. Bless you.
That era also begat Gaga’s “Monster” phase, wherein she assumed her lifetime position as Mother Monster to all of her adoring Little Monster fans. And now, that moniker will stay with her forever, inked on her skin. The “G.U.Y.” singer hit up tattoo artist Eric Gonzalez of Deer’s Eye Studio to pen the work while she preps the final ARTPOP Ball Tour stops in the U.K.
“Such an honor to be tattooing Lady Gaga again. Thank you for inviting me back out,” Gonzalez wrote on Instagram. “Tattooing. Jameson. Friends. All while she’s working on a new song with the homies Tim Stewart and Ricky Tillo. Priceless. Speechless.”
