Karina Smirnoff said her love of dating was one of the reasons she wrote We’re Just Not That Into You: Dating Disasters from the Trenches.

Maybe she decided it was better to continue walking the talk? The Dancing with the Stars pro has ended her engagement to Jason Adelman, PEOPLE confirms.
A rep for Smirnoff could not be reached for comment. PEOPLE confirmed in January that Smirnoff, 37, decided to tie the knot with Adelman after less than a year of dating. It was Smirnoff’s third engagement: fellow DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy got down on one knee in December 2008 before splitting in September 2009; following that, she was engaged to MLB pitcher Brad Penny for a year in 2011. In her book, Smirnoff and her friends wax on about several dates and relationships gone bad, though the identities of the men are never revealed.

That said, it seemed obvious that the A-list star that took Smirnoff to a very public restaurant while talking her ear off was probably Owen Wilson, and that the “super hot” and “sexual” DWTS celebrity she got hot and heavy with was no doubt Mario Lopez. “It’s not about calling anyone out,” Smirnoff told PEOPLE. “It’s literally looking at dates from a positive perspective. You need to be able to laugh at yourself, and then you will enjoy the dating process that much more.”  Last month, Smirnoff announced that she would be sitting out this season of DWTS, which premieres Monday. “I’ve decided to focus my energies on some other exciting endeavors,” she said at the time.
