She and Ben Affleck are the picture of marital bliss. But before Jennifer Garner tied the knot with the Oscar winner, she was married for four years to her Felicity co-star Scott Foley. ‘We didn’t have a shot,’ the 41-year-old says of her divorce from the actor in the September issue of Allure magazine. ‘He’s a really good guy, and we just imploded.”‘
Jennifer and Scott, now 41, tied the knot in October 2000 after meeting on the set of television show Felicity – Scott was a series regular alongside Keri Russell from 1998 to 2002, and Jennifer guest starred in 1998. The couple separated in March 2003 and finalised their divorce a year later.
‘Oh, he’s a great guy,’ the mother-of-three said of Scott, who now has two children with wife Marika Dominczyk. ‘We were full-on grown-ups, but looking back I’m aware we did not know what hit us.’ The actress is vague about what exactly led to the demise of their marriage, but perhaps it was her sudden fame after she was cast as lead Sydney Bristow in the hit show Alias, for which she won a Golden Globe Award in 2002.
Jennifer and Ben, meanwhile, met on the set of their 2003 film Daredevil, and the pair married in June 2005. The couple now have three children – Violet, seven, Seraphina, four, and son Samuel, 18 months. Jennifer also told Allure that Ben is ‘taller than you’d expect and more handsome than you’d think he could be.’ But she admits she doesn’t want to work with him because ‘people see paparazzi shots of us together all the time. There’s no mystery… People are sick of us.’
She also said that she prefers not to be pictured on the red carpet with her Oscar winning husband, who recently snagged the role of Batman in the upcoming Man Of Steel sequel. ‘It can be too much,’ she said. ‘I think especially for women, they can really lose their identity and just become “wife of.”‘
