Prince Harry’s memoir Spare is set to be published in a paperback edition, but unlike many paperback releases, it won’t include any additional chapters or new information. Penguin Random House, the publisher, confirmed that the content of the paperback edition will remain “unchanged,” a decision that might be linked to Harry’s ongoing efforts to reconcile with the royal family.
On Tuesday, August 27, Penguin Random House announced that the paperback version of Spare will be released on October 24 in the UK. Interestingly, this release date may coincide with King Charles and Queen Camilla’s upcoming tour of Australia and Samoa, scheduled for later this year. As the head of the Commonwealth, King Charles is set to visit several countries and attend the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting from October 21 to October 26, hosted by Samoa. This tour marks the first Commonwealth visit of his reign.
Prince Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, has been strained ever since he stepped back from his role as an active member of the royal family. The rift deepened further following the release of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan in December 2022, and the publication of Spare a month later.
The new paperback edition of Spare will feature the same cover design but will be presented in a “newly designed package.” It will be available in 16 different languages. Random House US and Random House Canada will distribute the copies in North America, while Transworld will handle the UK release.
Spare became an instant bestseller upon its release in January 2023, selling over 6 million copies worldwide and earning a Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling non-fiction book ever. In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Prince Harry described his memoir as a “raw account” of “the good, the bad, and everything in between.”
Harry also shared that writing the memoir was part of his mental health journey and that he hoped his story would make a positive impact on others. “If sharing my experience makes a positive difference in someone’s life, well, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that!” he said at the time.
With the paperback edition set for release, Spare continues to captivate readers, even without any additional content, further solidifying its place as one of the most talked-about memoirs in recent years.
