Prince Harry has no plans to return to full-time royal duties unless his elder brother, Prince William, offers an apology, according to reports from the Daily Mail and The Mirror. However, the Duke of Sussex is reportedly open to holding temporary roles within the Royal Family if King Charles III requests his assistance.
Despite this, the reports emphasize that Prince Harry is content with his decision to step down from royal responsibilities and does not seek a permanent return to the family. He and his wife, Meghan Markle, have been living in California with their two children for the past four years, and there is little indication that they wish to reintegrate fully into royal life.
The chances of Harry being welcomed back appear slim, as Prince William is still reportedly angry about revelations made in Harry’s memoir, Spare. In the book, Harry accused his brother of physically assaulting him during a disagreement over Meghan and detailed other tense confrontations, including one after Prince Philip’s funeral. Harry also claimed that William and Kate encouraged him to wear the infamous Nazi costume that sparked widespread outrage.
In Spare, Harry characterized William as his “arch-nemesis” and criticized other members of the Royal Family, describing Queen Consort Camilla as a “wicked stepmother” and King Charles as an emotionally distant “old man.”
Harry and William’s relationship has been deeply strained for months, with no direct communication between the two. Last week, both brothers attended the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, but witnesses reported that the brothers did not interact during the service. They were seated separately at the back of St. Mary’s Church in Snettisham, keeping a noticeable distance from each other.
Reports also suggest that Harry has been reaching out to former confidantes from his past, seeking advice on how to navigate his current situation and possibly stage a comeback from his self-imposed exile in the U.S.
