The “Star Wars” creator marries Mellody Hobson. Find out which celebs are sending their love to the newlyweds. “Star Wars” mastermind George Lucas turned Skywalker Ranch in Marin County into a bit of a love fest Saturday evening when he married Mellody Hobson in a ceremony officiated by journalist Bill Moyers.
Hobson, 44, was given away by former New Jersey senator and longtime friend Bill Bradley, according to the Huffington Post, which saw its founder, Arianna Huffington, among the guests. Huffington told the Post that Moyers’ words were quite moving, while Ron Howard tweeted that it was “nothing short of profound.” It was a first marriage for Hobson and a second for Lucas, 69.
“It was a gathering of people who have known George and Mellody for a very long time. It was an extraordinary day filled with so much love,” Lucas spokeswoman Lynne Hale told the Marin Independent Journal. Among the guests were Howard, Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg, whom HuffPo said joked during a toast that the Force finally had a name: Mellody. Van Morrison and Janelle Monae reportedly performed at the reception.
Hobson, president of financial company Ariel Investments, also serves as chairwoman of Dreamworks Animation. Last year, filmmaker Lucas sold his company Lucasfilm to Disney for around $4 billion. – Latimes
