Adele swept the board at the Brit Awards 2016, taking home the most gongs since Blur in 1995. The “Hello” singer won four awards at the London ceremony to become the most successful solo artist in any one year. Coldplay also earned a place in Brits history after being the first group to win best British group four times.
Controversy over the lack of diversity was further fuelled by an all-white winners list, with Justin Bieber taking the international male solo artist prize.
Sadly, not one artist mentioned the growing issue during their winning speech, but organisers have promised “new initiatives” to include underground genres such as grime that are rapidly becoming more mainstream.
