Billy Ray Cyrus is eager to put the drama of his marriage to Firerose behind him. According to a source who spoke with PEOPLE, the country star is focusing on moving forward and has a strong support network. “He’s happy in Nashville and doing well,” the insider says. “He’s with close friends and he has great contact with [his daughter] Noah.”
While the ongoing divorce proceedings are “annoying” for Cyrus, the source mentions that “he’s happy to be out of the marriage.” The insider reveals that the 62-year-old country star feels the relationship “was all a scam.”
“He feels lucky that he figured it all out,” they add. A representative for Cyrus declined to comment when contacted by PEOPLE, and a representative for Firerose did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Cyrus filed for divorce on May 23 after nearly seven months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct as the reasons for the split. He also submitted paperwork requesting an annulment on the grounds of fraud.
In her response, Firerose, 36, denied any inappropriate marital conduct and accused her ex of behaving inappropriately, stating that she felt “unsafe” living with him.
On June 13, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer filed an emergency motion seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent his ex from using his personal and business credit cards and accounts. He claimed she had made approximately $100,000 in “unauthorized” purchases following their separation.
Despite the turmoil, Billy Ray Cyrus is focusing on his well-being and the positive aspects of his life. Surrounded by close friends and maintaining a strong connection with his daughter Noah, he is looking ahead with a sense of relief and determination to move past the tumultuous chapter.
