Pakistani descent British boxer Amir Iqbal Khan was born on 8 December 1986 in Bolton, Greater Manchester. He began his amateur boxing career just at the age of 11 and gained early honors of three junior ABA titles, three English school titles, and gold at the 2003 Junior Olympics. He again won a golden medal at the European Student Championships in Lithuania in 2004. One of the Amir Khan’s notable amateur fights was against Victor OrtÃz, whom he defeated with in second round stoppage only.
Finishing in first place at the 1st AIBA European 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Amir Khan qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics and after a year in age of 19 fought his last amateur fight. His professional career started off in 2008 when he was scheduled to fight for Commonwealth lightweight title against Australian Gary St Clair at the Excel Arena in London that was his first fight that lasted all 12 rounds and was a won again.
Boxing champion Amir Khan fought at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham against Irishman Michael Gomez in June 2008 and received some criticism as being knocked down in second round. After a month of fight with Michael Gomez, Jorge Rubio was announced his new trainer as Amir Khan already had a split from his trainer Oliver Harrison. Winning the belt just at the age of 22, Amir Khan was ranked the Britain’s third-youngest world champion after Naseem Hamed and Herbie Hide.
Amir Khan defended his title for for the third time in December 2010 while fighting against the WBA interim champion and mandatory challenger, Marcos Maidana who after the fight remarked about Khan, “It was a hell of a fight. Amir Khan is a great, skillful and fast boxer, and he proved that he can take a punch. Amir Khan is a great champion“.
