Sophia Bush and Grant Hughes have officially settled their divorce, PEOPLE confirms. According to court documents, the One Tree Hill actress, who filed for divorce in August 2023 after just over a year of marriage, reached a confidential settlement agreement with Hughes on December 30, 2024.
The split stemmed from “irreconcilable differences,” as cited in Hughes’ September 2023 response to the divorce filing. The couple’s date of separation was listed as June 27, just 16 days after celebrating their first wedding anniversary on June 11. Neither party requested spousal support, and each agreed to cover their own attorney fees. However, disputes over their prenuptial “Unity Agreement” delayed proceedings into early 2024.
Bush and Hughes tied the knot in June 2022, marking their anniversary with an Instagram post that was later deleted. “Today marks 365 days of calling you ‘husband.’ Best decision of my life. It still feels just like this. Ecstatic. Running toward the future, grinning and laughing, together. I love you, my favorite. Happy Anniversary 🤍,” Bush wrote at the time. In a candid Glamour interview in April f2024, Bush revealed the post was more of a façade, admitting, “It was just a story.” She disclosed that after posting it, she became physically ill.
Despite their split, Bush and Hughes have remained amicable. A source close to the couple shared, “Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service. They continue to run their nonprofit together and remain good friends.”
Shortly after the divorce filing, Bush was linked romantically to professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris. PEOPLE reported in October 2023 that the two had gone on their first dinner date after years of friendship and shared social circles. Their relationship became public in March 2024 when they attended the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s annual Oscars viewing party together. They made their red carpet debut as a couple a month later at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Meanwhile, Hughes expressed his ongoing support for Bush through his representative, stating, “Grant will always want the best for Sophia and is supportive of all that makes her happy and fulfilled.”
With their divorce finalized, Bush and Hughes are focusing on their respective futures, navigating life with grace and mutual respect while pursuing happiness on their own terms.
