Simone Biles’ post-Olympics celebration took an unexpected turn when she was nearly charged an astonishing $26,000 for a bottle of champagne. In a TikTok video posted on Monday, August 19, the 27-year-old Olympic gold medalist shared the story of her night out after the closing ceremonies, revealing the shocking moment at a club. “OK, we had closing ceremonies at the Olympics. I went, and after that, we went out,” Biles began. “You guys, this club tried to charge me $26,000 for a bottle of champagne. Like, are you insane?”

Biles, known for her down-to-earth attitude, quickly dismissed the outrageous price. “Obviously, I did not buy the pricey beverage,” she added with a laugh. “Why would you even try to play me like that? Like, that’s wild.” The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee awards $37,500 to Team USA gold medalists, with silver medalists earning $22,500 and bronze winners taking home $15,000.

Although Biles didn’t clarify if her Olympic earnings were a factor in the attempted charge, her reaction made it clear that she wasn’t about to be taken advantage of.

Biles recounted the story while getting ready for her husband Jonathan Owens’ Chicago Bears preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, August 17. As she did her hair and makeup, Biles reflected on the attention that comes with her Olympic success. “Sometimes the attention, like, I’d rather not have it,” she told fans. “I’d rather just be as normal as possible.”

Biles made a triumphant return to the Olympics in Paris last month after stepping back from multiple competitions at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to the “twisties,” a mental block that affects gymnasts’ ability to perform. Her comeback was nothing short of spectacular, earning her four medals: gold in the women’s artistic individual all-around, women’s vault, and team all-around competitions, along with a silver in the women’s floor exercise final. Since then, Biles has become a prominent advocate for mental health.

After the closing ceremony, Biles shared glimpses of her night out on Instagram. “The reason I’m unwell this morning,” she captioned a video of herself at a party, waving an American flag as the crowd cheered. In another clip, she and her sister, Adria, sang along to Waka Flocka Flame’s “Grove St. Party.”

Biles joked, “If you see me out at the club, pls tell me to go home. For my own sake & health in the AM.”

Back home in Texas, Biles was thrilled to reunite with her bed, sharing a selfie with the caption, “Never been so happy.” Although Biles has expressed interest in competing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, she also hinted at her future with Owens. “He would have had [kids] yesterday if he could have,” she said during an August 6 interview on Today. “Obviously, we both have goals that we want to achieve before we start a family. But yes, that’s definitely in our future.”
