An Instagram model accused of causing a fatal high-speed crash in Miami while allegedly under the influence of “pink cocaine” is now under house arrest after posting a $26,000 bond. Maecee Marie Lathers, 24, has entered a not-guilty plea to charges including vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and fleeing the scene of a crash, according to Law&Crime.

Lathers was arrested by Miami-Dade Police on August 11, a day after the tragic accident that occurred around 7 a.m. at North Miami Avenue. According to authorities, Lathers allegedly ran a red light and crashed her Mercedes into a Range Rover, which then collided with a sedan. The violent impact resulted in the death of the rear passenger in the sedan at the scene. The driver, Abraham Ismael, was later pulled from the wreckage and died at a hospital. His wife, Juanita Hernández, who was in the passenger seat, and the driver of the Range Rover were both hospitalized.

Investigators revealed that Lathers had accelerated to 78 mph at the moment of impact, just seconds after driving at 57 mph. Police also noted that her “accelerator [was] at 100%” at the time of the crash.

Security footage captured Lathers attempting to walk away from the scene before witnesses intervened and brought her back. Upon arrival, police found her vomiting, and she allegedly admitted to being high on a party drug called “tusi,” commonly known as “pink cocaine.”

“She advised she was under the influence of ‘2C,’ a known party drug, and that she was from the future and had a crystal ball,” Judge Mindy S. Glazer read from the police report during a court hearing earlier this month.

Initially charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene, and causing a death, Lathers now faces additional charges after a vehicle data search warrant revealed her excessive speed at the time of the crash. Prosecutors are also considering charging her with DUI manslaughter, pending the results of her toxicology test.

Lathers is scheduled to appear in court on September 3, where her legal battles will continue. The case has drawn significant attention due to the allegations surrounding her drug use and the tragic consequences of the crash.
