Eugenio Casnighi, a 26-year-old Italian model, has sparked considerable buzz online after claiming that he was fired from his role at the Met Gala for allegedly upstaging Kylie Jenner at last year’s event. Casnighi took to TikTok to share the surprising news that he would not be returning as a greeter at this year’s prestigious fashion gala.

In his video, the model expressed his disappointment, suggesting that his removal was due to the amount of attention he garnered during the previous ceremony, which supposedly shifted the spotlight away from Hollywood’s elite attendees. According to Casnighi, he was informed just this past Friday that his services would no longer be required for the upcoming event, leaving him both shocked and disheartened by the decision.

Eugenio, who served as a model and greeter in 2021 and 2023 at the Gala said, “I’ve never talked about this because I’ve been under NDA, but funnily enough they fired me so I can say whatever I want now.” The model started his video with a viral picture of him standing next to the beauty mogul at last year’s event. He added, “I just got fired from the Met Gala”, told Page Six.

Eugenio said that he was informed on Friday that he would not be working as a greeter this year. The model said in his video, “They let me know today that they cut me off, they fired me because I went viral last year. You made it about yourself so we can’t work with you anymore.”

The Met Gala, renowned for its exclusivity and high-profile guest list, is set to take place again at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 6, 2024. It is one of the most significant events on the fashion calendar, known not only for its celebration of costume art but also for the considerable media coverage and celebrity presence it attracts each year.

Casnighi’s claim that his physical appearance was a distraction at the gala highlights the intense scrutiny and the sometimes capricious standards that can characterize the fashion industry. His assertion has stirred discussions about the dynamics of visibility and the role of support staff at such high-profile events. Typically, greeters at the Met Gala are tasked with welcoming and assisting attendees, a role that, while important, usually keeps them in the background relative to the celebrated guests.

The model’s unexpected removal has led to mixed reactions online, with some social media users expressing sympathy for Casnighi, while others speculate about the veracity of his claims. The incident raises questions about the balance between maintaining the gala’s focus on its celebrated guests and acknowledging the contributions of everyone involved in making the event successful.

As the Met Gala 2024 approaches, the story of Eugenio Casnighi’s exclusion has added an extra layer of intrigue to the already highly anticipated event. Whether his claims will impact the proceedings or perceptions of this year’s gala remains to be seen. However, it underscores the often unseen tensions that can exist behind the scenes of the glamorous world of high fashion and celebrity culture.
