Melania Trump has claimed she is one of the most bullied people in the world.
The First Lady’s comments have sparked ridicule on social media with hundreds asking if she was referring to husband Donald Trump as her tormentor.
“I could say that I’m the most bullied person in the world,” the First Lady said in an interview with ABC News.
“One of them, if you really see what people are saying about me,” she then added.
The mum-of-one explained how her experience with bullying led in part to her Be Best campaign, which seeks to raise awareness about cyberbullying.
The former model spent part of her recent trip to Africa, where the interview took place, promoting the initiative.
Despite criticism over her husband’s cyber insults – which are regularly used to target the president’s political foes and critics – she said earlier this year she is undeterred in her efforts to address the growing problem.
“I’m well aware that people are sceptical of me discussing this topic. I have been criticised by many for my commitment to tackling this issue, and I know that will continue,” she said in March.
“I’m here with one goal: helping children in our next generation.”
Social media erupted following her claims.
