Linda Reese has filed for divorce from Judge Mathis star Greg Mathis after nearly four decades of marriage. The TV personality, now 64, married Linda in June 1985, shortly after the passing of his mother. The couple shares four adult children—Jade, Camara, Greg Jr., and Amir.
According to court documents, Linda cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, listing their official date of separation as July 17, told TMZ. With their children all over the age of 18, the couple will not need to address issues of custody or child support. However, Linda has requested spousal support in the divorce proceedings. Additionally, she has moved to block the court’s ability to award spousal support to Greg. It remains unclear whether the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place.
Greg and Linda were married 14 years before Greg made his television debut with his reality court show, Judge Mathis. The show, which ran for 24 seasons from 1999 to 2023, made Greg a household name and earned him widespread recognition. Judge Mathis became the longest-running active court show before it ended last year, cementing Greg’s legacy in television.
Beyond the courtroom, Greg also starred in the popular E! series Mathis Family Matters, which showcased his family life. His successful career was further celebrated in May 2022 when he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Linda was by his side at the event, which also saw appearances from close friends like Magic Johnson and Johnny Gill.
Greg has often spoken openly about his career and the unique connection he felt with the litigants on his show. In an interview with Variety, he shared, “I can identify better than most judges with the plight of the litigants because I’ve lived the life of almost every litigant that comes before me.” He added, “My sole objective in life is to be able to inspire the people I left behind to overcome their obstacles,” expressing his hope that his show served as an inspiration to the community.
