Katy Perry has faced significant backlash for collaborating with Dr. Luke, a producer accused of verbal and sexual assault by Kesha, though he has denied the claims. Perry’s recent album Woman’s World, which includes work with Dr. Luke, has reignited controversy surrounding the partnership.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, Perry addressed the criticism and explained her decision to collaborate with Dr. Luke. She stated, “I understand that it started a lot of conversations, and he was one of many collaborators that I worked with.”
Perry emphasized that the album and its songs reflect her personal experiences, saying, “The reality is, it comes from me. The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that.”
Responding to criticism of the song lyrics, some of which have been labeled as “cheesy” and “anti-feminist,” Perry explained that her lyrics reflect her own journey. “When I speak about Woman’s World, I speak about feeling so empowered now, as a mother, as a woman,” she said. “I created all of this with several different collaborators, people that I’ve worked with from the past, from the Teenage Dream era.”
Despite Perry’s defense, many fans expressed dissatisfaction on social media, accusing the singer of dodging difficult questions and using her status as a mother to downplay the backlash. According to Metro, some fans went as far as labeling her justification “grotesque.”
As Perry continues to promote her new album, the controversy surrounding her collaboration with Dr. Luke remains a topic of heated discussion among fans and critics alike.
