Justin Hawkins, lead singer of The Darkness, woke up to a delightful surprise when he saw Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce grooving to his iconic hit I Believe in a Thing Called Love during the US Open. In a TikTok video shared on Monday, Hawkins expressed his excitement over the viral clip that had fans buzzing.
“I woke up this morning and everybody’s forwarded me some footage of I Believe in a Thing Called Love being played at the US Open,” Hawkins said. “Taylor Swift and her partner, Travis [Kelce], were dancing along to it and really enjoying the music.”
The footage showed the superstar couple smiling and dancing to the song during the men’s final on September 8th, with Swift even pointing to Kelce and singing the lyrics, “I wanna kiss you every minute, every hour, every day.”
Hawkins was clearly touched by the moment. “It was a really heart-warming moment for me,” he shared, adding how excited his daughter was to tell her friends at school about it.
The British rocker went on to reveal that this wasn’t the first time Swift had surprised him. A few weeks ago, Hawkins attended Swift’s Eras Tour in Zurich, Switzerland, with his daughter, who is a huge fan. He was shown “extraordinary” hospitality, being placed in a “lovely VIP area.”
“I was just Dad of the year,” Hawkins proudly said. To make the experience even more special, Swift had left him a handwritten note in the VIP section, expressing her admiration for him and his music. “Justin, what a thrill to have you at the show! I’m a massive fan of yours and think I Believe in a Thing Called Love is one of the greatest songs of all time. I hope you and your family have fun at the show! Thanks so much for coming!” the letter read.
Hawkins ended the video by thanking Swift and Kelce for the “lovely” start to his day, making it clear that the moment meant a lot to him. The sweet interaction between the rockstar and the pop sensation has only further endeared him to fans.
