Ruth Wilson has had a stellar year with Disney, having starred in The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and now walking the red carpet with Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell and Emma Thompson for Saving Mr. Banks But at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of the new film which follows one week in the making of Mary Poppins, Ruth told Mail Online that she had the dress (a Dior one to be precise) that looked like it could be worn by one Disney Princess in particular.
‘It is a Little Mermaid-like dress! Joe Wright’s doing the [live action version], I should give him a call!’ The British actress remembers this Disney classic in particular, as her earliest memory of Walt’s animations was seeing the sea-themed flick as a young girl in Staines.
And since then, Ruth has seen her career in film gradually grow over the years, with starring turns on stage and screen, from playing Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre to an obsessive stalker in crime series Luther While she’s been a consistently praised actress for her work, her move into film she admits has been a slow burner.
‘Film’s that I wanted to do weren’t really coming my way. And then gradually they came knocking at the door. It’s been slow in that way but that’s probably the best way Colin Farrell made a dapper appearance on the red carpet at Odeon Leicester Square, as he talked about his first really family-friendly movie.
And clearly he is a fan of children’s flicks himself, referencing Willy Wonka when Mail Online asked if it was a conscious effort to expand on his film genres: ‘Expand? Take him to the de-juicing room! Ah you’re turning violet, Violet!
‘No it wasn’t really like that. I just read the script and it was a good read. It was moving and quite irregular, and that stayed with me and moved me.’
