Oh Claudia Winkleman.
While many of the GQ Awards female guests had spent hours preening themselves in front of a mirror before making their way down to the Royal Opera House, one woman clearly hadn’t. Eye-make up smeared, hair windswept and a fake tan Ross Gellar from Friends would have been proud of, Claudia, 41, certainly wouldn’t want to be using that make-up artist again.
But maybe the state of her facial affairs wasn’t down to a third party, but rather the result of a rushed DIY job in the backseat of a car on the way to the mens’ magazine event. And like Bridget Jones in the Edge Of Reason, the sheer extent of the half-hearted make-up application didn’t look quite so bad in the confines of the vehicle which delivered her to the awards show.
However, once under the flashbulbs and in front of the bright black and white backdrop, Claudia looked more like Lauren Harries than the sophisticated TV presenter the country’s used to seeing on Film 2013. Certainly the Twitter world was shocked when photos of Winkleman surfaced on the internet.
One user, @katy_bamber wrote: ‘Why does Claudia Winkleman always look like she’s just woken up in last nights makeup?’ While another – @JustKyleMc – asked another valid question: ‘At what point did Claudia Winkleman look in the mirror and think “I look good”?’
Her friend certainly didn’t mention anything before hitting the red carpet, wearing a smug look that said ‘I’ve not a blush out of place’ as she wrapped an arm around Winkleman who actually looked rather sleek in the backless jumpsuit with white stilettos. The Strictly Come Dancing Result show co-host missed the BBC 1 talent show’s red carpet extravaganza to attend the GQ Awards.
But even though the likes of Daisy Lowe and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stole the show, Claudia could certainly feel secure in the knowledge that at least on that night, she had the perfect face for her BBC Radio 2 show.
