Blake Shelton is saying farewell to a significant chapter of his country music career. The “God’s Country” singer announced this week that he is officially parting ways with his longtime record label, Warner Music Nashville, after more than two decades of partnership.
Shelton, 48, reflected on the journey that started when he moved to Nashville to pursue his dreams. “I moved to Nashville when I was 17 to sing country music and get a record deal,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, September 3, according to Billboard. “Along with the support from Warner, my dreams came true, and then some.”
Shelton’s music career began when he signed with Giant Records, which released his debut hit single “Austin” in 2001. Shortly after, the label shut down, and Shelton’s contract was transferred to Warner Music Nashville, where he enjoyed a successful career for over 20 years.
In his heartfelt statement, Shelton expressed gratitude to the team that supported him throughout his career. “It’s impossible to name everyone who has had a hand in all the success we enjoyed, but a huge and heartfelt thank you to the Giant Records, Warner Bros. Records, and Warner Music Nashville staff and family.”
Warner Music Nashville also released a statement on Tuesday, expressing their appreciation for Shelton’s time with the label. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to have worked alongside Blake these past 23 years,” the label said. “Together, we’ve celebrated a number of hit songs, sold-out tours, and award wins. Blake’s talent is undeniable, but that wit of his, and the countless moments of laughter he’s given us, remind us how fun this business of music can be.”
Although their professional partnership has come to an end, Warner expressed their ongoing admiration for the country music star. “While our time together has come to an end, we count ourselves amongst his biggest fans and are grateful for the ride with this true gentleman and icon.”
As for what comes next, Shelton has not revealed any future plans or whether he will sign with another record label. Fans will be eagerly waiting to see where his next career move takes him.
