Anne Hathaway has issued an apology for her behavior in a 2012 interview that recently resurfaced and went viral. The interview, conducted by reporter Kjersti Flaa, was reposted on YouTube last week, and according to the Daily Mail, Hathaway reached out to make amends.
On Tuesday, Flaa revealed that Hathaway had sent her a “long email” apologizing for the “cringe” experience she had during their past encounter. In a new TikTok video, Flaa expressed her surprise, saying, “I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never going to even see that video, but she did and she did something pretty amazing.”
Flaa explained that Hathaway shared details about what she was going through at the time and apologized for giving her a difficult interview. The interview in question occurred when Hathaway was promoting Les Misérables in 2012, a period when the actress was receiving significant media attention.
During the brief interaction, Hathaway’s responses were notably short and seemed unenthusiastic. At the start, Flaa jokingly asked Hathaway to sing her answer to the first question, to which the Mothers’ Instincts actress replied, “Well, I won’t be doing that, but you’re more than welcome to sing.”
Flaa continued by asking Hathaway if she remembered her first crush or if she believed that love was more passionate during the time period Les Misérables is set. Hathaway curtly responded with a simple “No” to both questions, creating an awkward atmosphere.
Reflecting on the experience years later, Flaa admitted that the interview “didn’t go as planned.” However, she found Hathaway’s recent apology “so touching.” Flaa shared, “It was a very personal note and we decided that I wouldn’t share exactly what was in the email, but I just wanted to share with you guys what she did because I thought that was just so amazing.”
Flaa added that she responded to Hathaway’s email with gratitude, accepting the apology and even suggesting a follow-up interview. The exchange highlights Hathaway’s efforts to make amends and Flaa’s willingness to move forward positively.
