In the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian opens up about why she never needed therapy despite her highly public life and media scrutiny. Known for their constant presence in the news, the Kardashian-Jenner family has faced numerous controversies, with Kim often at the center. Her marriage to Kanye West was particularly tumultuous. However, Kim attributes her mental well-being to the support of her friends, stating they saved her from needing professional therapy.

Kim’s rise to fame began with a scandalous s*x tape and the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Now a billionaire and a brand unto herself, Kim maintains close ties with her family, including her mother Kris Jenner and her sisters Kourtney Kardashian Barker, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner. She also has four children with Kanye West.

The latest episode of The Kardashians, airing now, features Kim celebrating her 43rd birthday in October 2023. The star-studded bash in Beverly Hills was attended by her sisters, mother, and close friends such as Hailey Bieber, Ivanka Trump, Kimora Lee Simmons, and Lauren Sanchez. Reflecting on the celebration, Kim said, “It makes me feel so good that everyone wanted to come out and celebrate and have dinner with us. So tonight, I just want to celebrate with my girls, and I think all of us just need that sometimes.”

Kim emphasized the importance of her friends, calling them her “lifers.” She explained, “I think that’s probably why I’ve never seen a therapist, [it] is because I have the best friends in the entire world, and they mean everything to me.” Her close friends, including Allison Statter, Simone Harouche, Lindsay May, Sarah Meyer Michaelson, Zoe Winkler Reinis, and Ashley Kassan, were all present at the birthday celebration.

Despite her gratitude towards her friends, Kim faced significant backlash on social media platform X. Critics argued that relying on friends as a substitute for therapy is a harmful narrative. One user commented, “This idea that supportive friends are substitutes for therapy should end. This is a harmful narrative and not reality. Your friends should not be your therapists and vice versa. What she’s saying is very harmful.” Another quipped, “She doesn’t see a therapist because she had yes men telling her nothing is wrong with her. Very normal.”

Other users were equally critical, with comments like, “Your friends are not therapists,” and “That explains ALOTTTTTTTT.” One user bluntly stated, “She lies a lot,” while another added, “Oh she is a bully, why does she need a therapist.” Some suggested that those Kim has bullied might be the ones needing therapy, and another cynically noted, “Well when your friends are on your payroll.”

The debate continued with questions about whether her friends support her or her delusions, and some insisted both Kim and Kanye West really need therapy. New episodes of The Kardashians air on Hulu at 12 AM ET on Thursdays.
