A woman has shocked social media after revealing she cut up her maid of honor dress and mailed it back to her former best friend, ending a 20-year friendship over a wedding date clash.

Amy Dickinson, from Queensland, shared her story on TikTok, explaining how an event she’d planned for her business ended up colliding with her best friend’s wedding. The rift began when Amy’s childhood friend insisted on February 6, 2025, as her wedding date – despite knowing it was the only date Amy couldn’t commit to.

Amy said she had been “super excited” about the wedding and eagerly helped plan everything, from dress shopping to venue discussions. However, her excitement turned sour when she realized the date clashed with The Social Summit, a conference she organized with her sister for business-minded TikTok creators, reported by the Daily Mail.

When Amy expressed her concerns, her friend dismissed them, saying the venue could only accommodate the first Thursday of February. “I just said, ‘It sounds like so much fun, it is such a shame I won’t be able to make it,’” Amy explained.

The response enraged her friend, who fired back: “How could you do this to me? You’re my maid of honour. You are really going to put some business before our friendship? You are like my sister, and I have already paid for your dress.”

Amy recalled telling her friend: “That’s fine, you can have the dress back… The dress was fugly anyway.” She then dramatically cut the dress into six pieces and mailed it back along with the invitation.

The fallout wasn’t entirely unexpected. Amy explained to FEMAIL that the friendship had cracks long before the wedding drama, describing her former best friend as someone who had “always been a little jealous” and unsupportive.

While many on TikTok sympathized with Amy, urging her to walk away from the friendship, others had questions. One user joked, “I lost it at she wasn’t even engaged.” Another quipped: “Call the venue to check availability – I bet it’s a lie.”

Others shared their own friendship horror stories, including one user who said her “best friend” chose her birthday for a wedding and excluded her from the bridal party.

As for whether Amy’s story was fabricated to promote her event, she laughed off the suggestion, telling FEMAIL: “I’m thrilled people think I’m that clever, but the story is true.”

Amy’s tale has sparked a wave of commentary about loyalty, priorities, and boundaries in friendships – and a reminder that sometimes, a dress really is just “fugly.”
