Sheinelle Jones, co-host of the Today show’s third hour, returned to the air on Monday, Nov. 18, after fans noticed her absence the previous Friday. The mystery was cleared up when Jones revealed she had been attending a special event near Philadelphia.

“I wasn’t here Friday, I went right outside of Philadelphia to speak with the Society of Professional Women,” Jones shared during the broadcast, according to Hello! Magazine. She added that she stayed until the event ended, taking time to connect with nearly everyone in attendance. “I love that kind of stuff,” she said enthusiastically.

After the event, Jones returned home to spend time with her family, saying she switched into “soccer mom” mode.

While Jones was away, NBC News Now anchor Savannah Sellers stepped in to cover her spot on Friday’s show. Sellers is no stranger to filling in for Today show hosts, having also covered for Dylan Dreyer during Thursday’s episode of the third hour.

The Today show’s lineup is currently undergoing significant changes. Al Roker and Craig Melvin remain regular fixtures, with Melvin recently announced as Hoda Kotb’s successor. Kotb plans to leave the show in early 2025.

Additionally, the fourth hour of Today will undergo a transformation following Kotb’s departure. Jenna Bush Hager will lead the segment, which is being rebranded as “Jenna & Friends.” Until a permanent co-host is selected, the show will feature a rotating cast of guest hosts.

“This show is going to be all about friendship,” Hager said on Nov. 14. “We have so many amazing guests and friends and family that are part of the DNA of this show, and they are going to be coming along for the ride.”

Jones’ dedication to both her professional responsibilities and personal passions highlights the versatility and heart she brings to her role, leaving fans delighted by her return.
